Skica is a mobile app that uses ML/AI to re-meet a basic human need: self-care. It helps young people look after their skin day to day, acting as a cute personal assistant with reminders, tips and guidance. As the sole designer in a 3-person team, I owned character design, UX and UI — and the MVP was acquired by a US beauty company.
Young people struggle with skincare: they aren't consistent tracking their routine and products; there are too many products to choose from, which gets overwhelming; and the daily ritual rarely feels joyful.
Our target users were 18–30 year-olds facing three problems: consistency (tracking routines), products (knowing what suits their skin), and joy (self-care, not just skincare). We used the Double Diamond methodology to research and shape the MVP.
The MVP was acquired by a US company in the beauty industry — our first 'startup exit'. As the sole designer, I owned the app's UI/UX, character design, product branding, pitch decks and marketing materials.
